Rag Rugs

Usually rag rugs are made of clothing strips. Rag rugs can be made of a high variety of fabrics such as wool, cotton, silk or rayon. Don’t try to mix the kinds of fabrics you are going to use. It may cause some shrinkage of the fabric. If you want to get a finer and softer rug, choose soft fabrics.

Hard fabrics will result in somewhat coarser rag rugs. Rag rugs are the best way to recycle your old clothing that appear to be unused or are just out fashion. If you want to get involved in the rag rugs weaving you should perform the following steps.

At first prepare rag strips. These rag strips can be from one quarter to one inch wide, depending on the kind of rag rugs and desired sturdiness. Then fold the fabric so that the horizontal grain is parallel to the vertical one. After that, mark a straight line along the bias. With sharp scissors cut the lines that you have marked. Then sew ends of strips together.

After strips are sewn overlap a pair of two strips by about three eighth inch and crochet, working with double thickness of the two strips to join.
