Oriental Rugs
There are a huge number of different rugs all over the world. But Oriental rugs stand apart from other ones. Historically first rugs have been weaved in the East. Oriental rugs are deeply intertwined with the history of the East. The most ancient rugs were manufactured in the sixth century.
Archaeologists found them in the Himalayas, and now they are kept in the Hermitage. These rugs are likely to be weaved in Assyria (today’s Iraq). Nowadays such countries as India, Iran, China and Turkey are the biggest suppliers of Oriental rugs. It is very hard to count all kinds of Oriental rugs.
There are kilim, sumach, mahal, gerat and many other kinds. They vary from each other in weaving techniques, designs, fabrics and so on. Despite somewhat a modest lifestyle of many families in the East, every home is completed with Oriental rugs be it rich or poor. In some Islamic countries religion prohibits human images so you can see only ornamental pictures on these Oriental rugs.
